Sarah's Take on Tea - Alice In Wonderland Stylized Tea Party

My middle name is Alice, so I've always been a bit of a fan of Alice in Wonderland.  It was also fun to take something that's typically overly girly and make it more boy friendly!  Enough from me - on to the credits and photos!

Huge Thanks to everyone who helped contribute to this amazing shoot!  It all came together so perfectly - we couldn't have asked for anything more!  :)

If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary-wise; what it is it wouldn't be, and what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?
- Alice
No wonder you're late. Why, this watch is exactly two days slow.
- Mad Hatter

Curiosity often leads to trouble.
Alice - I simply must get through!
Doorknob - Sorry, you're much too big. Simply impassible.
Alice - You mean impossible?
Doorknob - No, impassible. Nothing's impossible

There is a place. Like no place on Earth. A land full of wonder, mystery, and danger! Some say to survive it: You need to be as mad as a hatter.
- Mad Hatter

Who's been painting my roses red? WHO'S BEEN PAINTING MY ROSES RED?
Who dares to taint
With vulgar paint
The royal flower bed?
For painting my roses red
Someone will lose his head!
- Queen of Hearts
 I'm late, I'm late!
For a very important date.
No time to say "Hello, Goodbye".
I'm late, I'm late, I'm late!

You used to be much more..."muchier." You've lost your muchness.
- Mad Hatter

How do ya do and shake hands, shake hands, shake hands. How do ya do and shake hands and state your name and business.
That's manners!
- Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum
Well, when I was lost, I suppose it's good advice to stay where you are until someone finds you. But who'd ever think to look for me here?
[sigh]
Good advice. If I listened earlier, I wouldn't be here. But that's just the trouble with me. I give myself very good advice, but I very seldom follow it.
- Alice

When I get home I shall write a book about this place... If I ever do get home.
- Alice

Your way? All ways here are my ways!
- Queen of Hearts

Mad Hatter - Why is a raven like a writing desk?
Alice - Riddles? Now let me see... why is a raven like a writing desk?
Mad Hatter - I beg your pardon?
Alice - Why is a raven like a writing desk?
Mad Hatter - Why is a WHAT?

No wonder you're late. Why, this watch is exactly two days slow.
- Mad Hatter
Of all the silly nonsense, this is the stupidest tea party I've ever been to in all my life.
- Alice

Teens: Joey, Sarah, Mackenzie, Lauren, and Samantha.

For those of you that don’t know, I have a mild obsession with Alice in Wonderland for some time now and was beyond thrilled when Cristin& Sarah wanted to experiment with a stylized party. I love the world you can create with Alice and her friends. To me, their setting is always a place of acceptance. A place where you can be anyone or anything you want and not be judged. This is the prefect world. Not only do I enjoy working with Sarah & Cristin but I have always relished in the entire thought process that goes into these stylized parties. In next week's blog posts we will give you some "How To’s" that we did and all the ideas that went into planning this tea party.

"But then, shall I never get any older than I am now? That'll be a comfort, one way -- never to be an old woman -- but then -- always to have lessons to learn!" said Alice.

" Now, I give you fair warning, either you or your head must be off, and that in about half no time! Take your choice!" said the Queen.

" You used to be much more...'muchier.' You've lost your muchness." said the Mad hatter.

The Mad Hatter's Tea Party ~ An Alice in Wonderland Styled Party Shoot

When we all got back together after the holidays, we decided to do an Alice in Wonderland themed party shoot this spring.  Angela had many of the costumes already, so we thought it would be a quick easy way to get back into the creative swing of things.  hahahahahahahahahahahahha.  Yeah right.  This shoot got so big, you will be seeing multiple blog posts about it!  Many of our decorations and costume pieces were DIY, so stay tuned for those posts too!

This first one is being written by Cristin Emrick, the resident high school senior photographer.  Let me start by saying, I love children.  I have four of them.  But, I absolutely big puffy heart LOVE to photograph teenagers.  Teens are so expressive and are still in the stages of exploring who they want to be as adults.  I always joke it's like photographing 4 or 5 people all rolled into one person! :)  So when we started to plan this shoot, I asked the other HoW ladies if I could add a smaller teen cast.  I love them for saying yes.

My idea all started with my Mad Hatter.  Joey was one of my 2013 senior clients and was perfect for the part.  I built the rest of this amazing cast around him.  Angela, Sarah, and I spent many hours planning the perfect dark, funky looks we were going for with the teens, and I am over the moon happy with how these images came out.  I was personally trying to challenge myself to shoot a little darker, edit a little darker, and try techniques I hadn't used before.

I had a ton of fun shooting with the younger kids too and I'm sharing a few of their images as well.  I would like to thank all the vendors and stylists who made this shoot absolutely rock.  Thank you all SO much:

A BIG thank you to our modeling cast: Teens: Joey, Sarah, Mackenzie, Lauren, and Samantha.  Youngins: Savannah, Savannah, Sean, Seth, Catherine, Sandy, and Gavin.
Pretty sure I've done enough talking.  Follow me down the rabbit hole.......

"Alice...you cannot live your life to please others. The choice must be yours, because when you step out to face that creature...you will step out alone" ~ The White Queen
"Have you any idea why a raven is like a writing desk?" ~ The Mad Hatter

"But I don't want to go among the mad people..." ~Alice

 Sibling rivalry....

"Off with their heads!" ~the Red Queen
 The White Queen

"Have I gone mad?" ~ the Hatter

"Your way? All ways here are my ways!" ~ The Red Queen

 Falling down the rabbit hole
“The Mad Hatter: "Would you like some wine?"
Alice: "Yes..."
The Mad Hatter: "We haven't any and you're too young.”

“Do you think I've gone round the bend?"
"I'm afraid so. You're mad, bonkers, completely off your head. But I'll tell you a secret. All the best people are.”  ~Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland

I had so much fun on this shoot.  Truly exhausting fun.  I hope you enjoyed seeing my images.  I hope you were transported to Wonderland.  I hope you were inspired!  Don't forget to keep your eyes out for the next set of images plus some DIY tutorials :)

~ Cristin
